Losing a tooth is a very common concern for Americans; at any given time, nearly 80 percent of us are missing at least one permanent adult tooth. Dental implants are a fantastic option for many patients, allowing them to have a durable and attractive restoration option for their missing tooth.
However, while getting a dental implant is a safe and routine procedure, to ensure the best possible outcome for you, you will want to get your implant placed by a periodontist. We here at Center for Advanced Periodontics and Implant Dentistry have the skill and the knowledge to help make sure your implant procedure is a complete success.
What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a type of permanent dental restoration that is surgically placed directly into your jawbone, underneath your gum line. This makes it both durable and reliable, making it an excellent choice for many of our patients. Dental implants are typically made of three components. The first piece of the implant is a titanium post. This titanium post is the part that is carefully placed into your jaw. We use titanium because this material is considered biocompatible, which means that instead of rejecting it, your bone builds up around it. This helps keep it sturdy and strong inside your mouth. The next part of the implant is the abutment. The abutment is the connector piece that attaches the titanium post to the third and final part of the implant. This third part is called the restoration or the crown and is the piece of the implant that resembles an actual tooth. We typically use porcelain, since this material closely resembles a natural tooth and is less likely to chip or break.
What is a Periodontist and How Can We Help?
A periodontist is a special type of dentist that focuses specifically on the health of your gums. We have taken three additional years of training beyond dental school, allowing us to help ensure you are getting the highest quality of care while you are receiving treatment from us. Our objective is to keep your gums healthy and free from infection or disease. We are the experts that you can trust when you have any sort of dental concerns that are specifically related to your gums. Anything about preventing, diagnosing, and treating gum issues are our forte.
Why Should We Place Your Dental Implant?
In addition to being trained in areas of gum health, we also undergo training on how to place dental implants. Some general dentists only take a weekend course on how to place a dental implant. We, on the other hand, have made our focus on the relationship between your teeth and your gums. By getting your dental implants with us, you can be confident that you will have the best possible outcome for your dental implant procedure.
Getting a dental implant can be a fantastic way to improve both your quality of life and your self-esteem.
